The Native Grapes That Make Mallorca Unique

Every wine region has grape varieties that define its identity. In Mallorca, those grapes are unlike anything found elsewhere.
For centuries, local varieties evolved alongside the island's climate, adapting to hot summers, dry conditions, and the constant influence of the Mediterranean Sea. Today, they are at the heart of Mallorca's wine renaissance.
Callet
Perhaps the best known of Mallorca's native grapes. Once overlooked in favour of international varieties, Callet is now celebrated for producing elegant wines with bright acidity, red berry fruit, gentle tannins, and subtle herbal notes. It captures the freshness and balance that many winemakers seek in modern Mediterranean wines.
Mantonegro
Another historic Mallorcan variety, known for its soft texture and expressive fruit character. It often contributes warmth and generosity while maintaining a distinctly local personality.
Gorgollassa
For many years, this grape stood on the edge of extinction. Thanks to the efforts of dedicated growers, it has been revived and is now producing some of the island's most exciting wines. Typically light in colour but complex in character, it has become a favourite among adventurous winemakers.
Prensal Blanc
On the white side, Prensal Blanc has long been one of Mallorca's signature grapes. Fresh, aromatic, and versatile, it produces wines that pair beautifully with seafood and Mediterranean cuisine.
Giró Ros
One of the island's rarest treasures. Almost forgotten for decades, it is now being rediscovered by producers eager to preserve Mallorca's viticultural heritage. The wines often combine texture, freshness, and remarkable individuality.
A Story of Resilience and Tradition
Together, these varieties tell the story of Mallorca — a story of resilience, of tradition, and of a wine region that is rediscovering what makes it truly unique. Because while international grapes can be grown almost anywhere, these grapes belong to Mallorca. And nowhere else.
